How to use the time card
Enter the time each workday started and ended, and the length of any unpaid break. Leave days off empty. The total for each day appears as soon as both times are in.
Set your hourly rate and overtime rule to see the pay. The card is saved on this device, so you can come back and finish it later.
How overtime is counted
With the weekly rule, every hour past 40 in the week is overtime. With the daily rule, every hour past 8 in a single day is overtime. Overtime hours are paid at your rate times the multiplier, usually 1.5.
Overtime rules differ by country, state and contract. Use the rule that applies to your job; the calculator does the arithmetic, not the legal decision.
Questions
How do I calculate a weekly time card?
Work out the hours for each day (out minus in, minus unpaid breaks), then add the days together. The calculator does both steps for you.
How is overtime pay calculated?
Overtime hours times the hourly rate times the multiplier. Five overtime hours at $20 with time and a half is 5 × 20 × 1.5 = $150.
Can I print the time card?
Yes. Use the print button. In the print window choose a printer or Save as PDF. The card fits on one page with space for signatures.
Is my data stored anywhere?
Only in your own browser, so the card is still there when you come back. Clear the card to remove it.
Guides
- How to Fill Out a Timesheet, Step by StepTo fill out a timesheet, write the date, your start time, your end time and any unpaid break for every day you work, then subtract the break to get each day’s hours. Add the days for the week, convert the total to decimal hours, check it, and sign. The steps below show each part with real numbers.
- How to Calculate Overtime Pay (Time and a Half and Double Time)To calculate overtime pay, multiply your hourly rate by 1.5 to get the overtime rate, then multiply that by your overtime hours. Add it to your regular pay for the total. Double time works the same way with 2 instead of 1.5.
- How to Calculate Hours Worked (With Lunch, Overnight Shifts and Weekly Totals)To calculate hours worked, subtract your start time from your end time, then subtract any unpaid lunch break. Convert the result to decimal hours by dividing the minutes by 60, and add up the days to get your weekly total.
